Works begin on la Pineda promenade
19/02/2025The Vila-seca International Short Film Festival (FICVI) will mark its tenth edition this autumn, taking place from 17 to 26 October at the Celler de Vila-seca. The festival has established itself as a cultural benchmark and does so with a new artistic director, the submission of 1,110 short films from 55 countries, and the unveiling of this year’s official poster, which continues the symbolic and aesthetic line introduced last year. The submission period for short films is now closed.
This year’s poster draws inspiration from the visual and cultural richness of Vila-seca. It reflects an image that connects with the essence of the territory and with the cinematic vision of renowned filmmakers such as Margarida Cordeiro and António Reis.
The FICVI is one of the partner festivals of the Spanish Academy of Cinematic Arts and Sciences, serving as a Collaborating Event in the Preselection of Short Films in the Fiction and Animation categories for the Goya Awards. This recognition confirms FICVI’s status as a quality seal in cinematic programming.
The tenth edition will mark the debut of Agustí Argelich as artistic director, a key figure in the world of short films. Co-founder and director of the Filmets Badalona Film Festival for over two decades, Argelich has been involved in numerous national and international festivals, as well as in audiovisual production and dissemination through 3Cat.
An Honorary Member of the Catalan Film Academy 2025 and a member of FICTS (Fédération Internationale Cinéma et Télévision Sportifs), Agustí Argelich has taken part in professional meetings, conferences and international markets such as Clermont-Ferrand, MIFA Annecy, Imaginative Toronto, Venice, Regard Quebec, San Sebastián, Off Courts Trouville, BISFF Brussels, Medimed, Málaga, DocsBarcelona, Indie Shorts Awards Cannes and SFC Cannes, among others. He has also served on the jury of numerous prestigious festivals and, throughout his career, has produced and directed around twenty short films across fiction, animation and documentary.
Among the planned activities, the festival will maintain its usual sections and parallel events open to the public, including screenings for school and family audiences, professional gatherings, training workshops, and the IN SITU section, which promotes audiovisual creation linked to the municipality. The programme is designed to bring cinema closer to everyone and to strengthen the connection between the festival and the local community.
The FICVI was launched in 2016 by the Vila-seca Municipal Tourist Board with the aim of creating a platform to promote high-quality short films and contribute to cultural dynamism at the local level. With each passing edition, the festival has grown in participation, audience and recognition.
For all these reasons, FICVI 2025 presents itself as a special and commemorative edition that will highlight the short film as a tool for culture, education and social cohesion. A space to enjoy outstanding short cinema and continue promoting Vila-seca as a cultural reference point.
