Vila-seca is a municipality that is deeply committed to the environment and to society, and it works to ensure the recovery of spaces and biodiversity of the region, recycling, the use of renewable energies and an efficient and sustainable drinking water supply.
- Recover of protected spaces: Different actions have converted several large deteriorated and run-down areas of the municipality into protected green spaces, such as Séquia Major, Torre d’en Dolça Park and Pinar de Perruquet Park.
- Household waste and recycling collection: Since 2009, Vila-seca has had one of the most advanced waste collection models in Europe: This system entailed the total revamping and modernisation of the collection and cleaning vehicles and all containers, leading therefore to a considerable improvement in the image of the pubic roadways, as well as fewer containers.
This collection service is complemented by two municipal household waste and recycling centres, in Vila-seca and La Pineda, as well as an itinerant centre. Further, by ringing 977 39 30 74 you can also use the home pickup service for electrical appliances and old furniture.

Mobile waste collection:
An itinerant truck, equipped to collect and recycle different types of domestic wastes parks each Saturday at a different point in Vila-seca. Please consult the collection points. At La Pineda Platja there is a household waste and recycling centre on Amadeu Vives 27, on the Citizen Services Campus in La Pineda.
· Water management: Vila-seca has an efficient and sustainable drinking water supply that is complemented by an extensive network of water dispensers and drinking fountains located on streets and in parks.
The cleaning of wastewaters is done, both for Vila-seca and Salou, at the Vila-seca Treatment Plant, which reuses the waters for watering and irrigation. This is true to such a degree that in 2017 the municipality was a finalist for the Sustainable City Award, in the water category, due to its optimised use of water resources, the construction of a drinking water ring for irrigation and watering public spaces and cleaning roads.
By applying double osmosis treatment to the already treated water, in 2017 6.7hm3 of undrinkable water was regenerated (a 73% increase in five years) that was allocated to industrial and leisure uses (for example, PortAventura). This reuse lets other water flows be released that can be used for domestic purposes.
· Energy efficiency: Vila-seca’s public street lighting has undergone extensive adaptations, a change that has led to a 60% saving in electricity and a 37% reduction in CO2 emissions. In parallel, a four–year programme is in execution phase to improve the energy efficiency of all public buildings.
