From October 17 to 26, 2025, the Celler de Vila-seca will host the tenth edition of the Vila-seca International Short Film Festival (FICVI). The anniversary comes with a top-level program and an Honorary Award for Lifetime Achievement to actress Emma Vilarasau.

This year, the FICVI received over 1,100 short films from 56 countries, from which 47 have been selected for the official competition. The program also includes FICVI Jove (Youth FICVI), the DO Catalunya Award, the Shorts&Wine section, and the In situ project, which connects local talent with audiovisual creation.

Since its inception, the Festival has grown in audience, participation, and recognition. Its journey has been defined by an international outlook, and over the past year, it has been present and promoted at major markets, festivals, and events such as the Cannes Film Festival and the Annecy International Animation Film Festival – MIFA, among others.

In addition, FICVI is an official collaborator in the preselection process for fiction and animation short films for the Goya Awards: the winners of the Best National Fiction Short Film and Best National Animation Short Film automatically qualify for the Goya preselection.

According to its artistic director, Agustí Argelich, FICVI presents a program of high technical and artistic quality, featuring award-winning titles from around the world as well as Spanish and Catalan premieres. Argelich adds that the programming team has designed the lineup with audiences in mind, which is why many of the selected films have received audience awards at various festivals.

Among the most notable titles are El Otro, the directorial debut of Eduard Fernández—this year’s Goya and Gaudí Award winner for Best Actor—which will open the festival; Huir, by Kike Maíllo and Alejandro Rivera, starring Álvaro Cervantes and Elena Rivera; and Ones, by Juanjo Giménez, Palme d’Or winner in Cannes and Oscar nominee. On the international stage, highlights include The One Note Man, a British comedy starring Jason Watkins, known for his role in The Crown (Netflix); and Tapeworm Alexis & Opera Diva, by Thaïs Odermatt, making its Spanish premiere at FICVI.

The festival’s opening ceremony will be hosted by journalist and presenter Espartac Peran, while the closing gala will be conducted by journalist Samanta Villar. This year, FICVI grants the Honorary Award for Lifetime Achievement to actress Emma Vilarasau, coinciding with the screening of Sisè primera by Albert Carbó, a short film starring Vilarasau and winner of FICVI Jove 2023. “Speaking of Emma Vilarasau means speaking of an artist who has marked generations through her performances in theater, television, and cinema. She is a beloved and admired actress who has managed to connect with audiences, conveying sensitivity and truth in every role,” stated the mayor of Vila-seca, Pere Segura.

With ten editions under its belt, the Vila-seca International Short Film Festival has established itself as an essential platform for the promotion of short films, combining international projection with strong local roots. According to Lluïsa Clavé, president of the Vila-seca Tourist Board: “Reaching this milestone is a reason for collective pride. Ten years ago, FICVI was an emerging project, and today it stands as a cultural and cinematic landmark that places Vila-seca on the map of short film at local, national, and international levels.”

From October 17 to 26, audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy a diverse and high-quality program at the Celler de Vila-seca.
