Next Saturday, August 3rd, visits in the natural\narea S\u00e9quia Major (main irrigation channel) will begin. These free guided tours\nare suitable for all ages in a two kilometres walk that takes approximately two\nhours, during which, the history of the place and its natural values \u200b\u200bwill be\nexplained, traces of animal activity will be interpreted through their tracks,\nfeathers, nests and food scraps, and birds with binoculars and protected\nspecies will be observed in this space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

S\u00e9quia Major is a wetland area located in la\nPineda, in an urban environment with a high tourist demand, which preserve a\nsample of the vegetation and fauna of the original Mediterranean coast. In this\n17.3 hectare protected area, you can find unique plant and animal communities,\nsuch as fartet or pond turtle, which are now found in very few Catalan\nhabitats. This natural space was built with the aim of draining the old ponds\nnear the sea. Currently, it is an important space consisting in some cane\nplantation communities, wet meadows and rushes, and also a wildlife reserve,\nwhich was declared a nature reserve protected under the Catalan Plan for Areas\nof Natural Interest (PEIN) since December 1992.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visits, which it is necessary to book in advance\nat the Patronat Municipal de Turisme de Vila-seca (phone 977 39 03 62) and in\nthe Tourism Information Office (weekends), will be held on Saturdays and\nSundays in August and September from 6 to 8.30pm, and from October to February,\non Sundays from 11 to 13.30 am. Meanwhile, visits are guided by Cel Rogent from\nthe access located in the Pla\u00e7a de la Can\u00e7\u00f3 Catalana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
