The seventh edition of the International Short Film Festival of Vila-seca (FICVI) ended on 23 October with the Awards Gala at the Celler de Vila-seca, hosted by the actor and comedian Peyu. Over the course of a week of screenings, around 2,000 spectators have passed through the new venue, surpassing the figures of previous editions, which shows that the change of venue has been a success.<\/p>\n
Since last year’s edition, the FICVI has collaborated in the short film pre-selection for the Goya Awards by sending the short film that won the National Award for Best Fiction Short Film. In this edition, the winning short film in this category was “La entrega” by director Pedro D\u00edaz, a dramatic comedy that narrates the relationship between an 80-year-old widower with agoraphobia and a young home delivery man. The film features fantastic performances by the acclaimed actor Ramon Barea, who won the 2013 National Theatre Award, and the Catalan Ferran Vilajosana, a theatre and film actor who is well known to the general public for playing the character of Roc from the Super3 Family.<\/p>\n
Chiusi alla luce by Italian director Nicola Piovesan has won the International Award for Best Fiction Short Film. This short film, awarded in several international festivals, stands out for its aesthetic originality: a sequence shot of about twenty minutes where the characters are motionless, describing the execution of a family of Italian partisans at the hands of the “Black Brigades” during the summer of 1944.<\/p>\n
The International Award for Best Animated Short Film went to Amarradas, an experimental short film about mother-daughter relationships directed by the multi-award-winning Carmen C\u00f3rdoba from C\u00f3rdoba. Another short film with a similar theme, Volver a casa, was the winner of the D.O Catalonia Award. It is the debut film of the Catalan director, actress and screenwriter Ariadna Pastor and tells the story of a girl who does not understand the absence of her father after having to move house due to the separation of her parents. The Young Jury has awarded Best Short Film to another Catalan production, Pisanka, by ESCAC-trained Valencian Jorge Y\u00fadice. A horror thriller featuring actresses Marta Bayarri and Betsy T\u00farnez, two friends who discover they have a dark past in common. Finally, the Audience Award went to Lentejas, by Jose Antonio Campos from Cordoba.<\/p>\n
During the first weekend of the FICVI, the series of short films participating in the In Situ Competition was filmed. The short films submitted had to be filmed in Vila-seca on the weekend of 15th and 16th October. The winners of the first and second prize In situ were La mayor medicina by Pilar Romina and No es pa\u00eds para ratones by Mario Teruel and Ver\u00f3nica Rodr\u00edguez, respectively.<\/p>\n
