The 8th edition of the International Short Film Festival of Vila-seca (FICVI) came to a close on Sunday 22nd October with an Awards Gala held at the Celler de Vila-seca and presented by Txe Arana and David Olivares. There were some 2300 spectators, approximately 300 more than the previous edition, who came to watch the screenings throughout the week.<\/p>\n

Once again this year, FICVI collaborates in the pre-selection of short films for the Goya Awards by sending the short film winner of the National Award for Best Fiction Short Film. In this edition, the winning short film in this category was Paris 70 by Dani Feixas, a comedy that asks whether white lies are a solution to suffering, or whether it is always preferable to tell the truth and face reality. This short film features performances by the great Alain Hern\u00e1ndez, Luisa Gavasa and Neus Asensi.<\/p>\n

Tonser by the Danish director Mads Koudal received the International Award for Best Fiction Short Film from the Mayor of Vila-seca Pere Segura, who congratulated the winner and encouraged those selected and those who were not selected to continue working so that they do not stop creating “true works of art”.<\/p>\n

The winner of this year’s D.O Catalonia Award was Sushi by Iv\u00e1n Morales, a comedy in which we see how Betu and Jaume, a father and son who spend a few hours together, still have a long way to go before they understand the meaning of parenthood. Albert Carb\u00f3 won the Young Jury Prize with Sis\u00e8 primera, in which the owner of a building in Barcelona’s Eixample district decides to look for new tenants for a flat and arranges interviews with several people to whom she will not give the same opportunities. The Audience Award went to O Coidado by Miguel Canalejo, a short film about old age, loneliness and technology.<\/p>\n

On 15 and 16 October, Vila-seca was turned into a large film set thanks to the IN SITU competition. The idea was to shoot a short film of no more than 3 minutes in length over the weekend, using locations in Vila-seca and some surprising elements provided by the festival management just before the start of the competition. The first prize in the IN SITU competition went to Descosit by \u00c0ngel. O Brunet and second prize went to La triste historia de Nicoleta Votzenof y su amigo el Conde Mor by Ari\u00e1n Araujo.<\/p>\n
