04/10/2022The FICVI, International Short Film Festival of Vila-seca, has selected 44 short films out of a total of 666 submitted, a record number that continues to endorse the international relevance of this event, which collaborates in the pre-selection of short films for the Goya Awards.
Thirty-five fiction short films and nine animated short films, starring actors from the world of cinema, will be shown on the big screen at the FICVI animation shorts, starring actors of the stature of José Sacristán in the short films Espinas, by Iván Sáinz-Pardo, and El Crédito by Alex Escudero, Aitana Sanchez Gijón also in Espinas, Amaia Salamanca in El Crédito, Luís Tosar and Dani Guzmán in Oriol Villar’s Cemento y Acero, Nacho Guerreros in Cristiano by Adán Pichardo, Marta Bayarri in Pisanka by Jorge Yúdice, among others.
In the filmmaking section, which this year has fourteen women, the presence of Rubén Navarro, winner of the International Award for Best Short Film at FICVI 2021, stands out, Carmen Córdoba, winner of the award for Best Animation Short Film, Jorge Yudice, winner of the National Award at FICVI 2019, and other directors who are making their debut, such as the advertising director Oriol Villar.
Of the forty-four films selected, there is one from Brazil, the Netherlands, Albania, United Kingdom and Iran, four from the United States, five from Catalonia and thirty from Spain, dealing with themes such as gender roles, illnesses like Alzheimer’s, historical memory, feminism, LGTBI+ issues and other everyday subjects like social networks or family dramas.
The seventh edition will be held from 14 to 23 October at the Celler de Vila-seca and will once again have nine categories:
