The Vila-seca International Short Film Festival (FICVI) opened its 11th edition this Saturday with a gala at the Celler de Vila-seca, hosted by Tarragona-born journalist Danae Boronat. The evening’s main highlight was actor Francesc Orella, who received the Festival’s Honorary Award for his career.
The award was one of the highlights of the opening ceremony, attended by Vila-seca Mayor Pere Segura, Municipal Tourism Board President Lluïsa Clavé and FICVI Artistic Director Agustí Argelich. The event also welcomed the start of a new festival edition.
In his speech, Francesc Orella championed short films as a window onto emerging talent and a way to explore different audiovisual languages. The actor also emphasised the importance of education in preserving humanity among younger generations.
The award recognises Orella’s professional career and his contribution to the world of acting, in an edition that once again places short films at the heart of Vila-seca’s cultural programme.
Screenings and activities underway
The festival’s opening weekend also marked the start of the official competition screenings and the first parallel activities. These included the launch of the In Situ section, with a workshop inviting participants to explore audiovisual creation.
Following the opening gala and the first screenings, the festival continues this week at the Celler de Vila-seca, with a programme combining cinema, meetings and activities related to the world of short films.
The 11th edition of FICVI takes place from 17 to 25 October and brings together an international selection of short films. The full programme is available at ficvi.cat.
