Vila-seca receives the Smart Tourist Destination Distinction at FITUR 2025
30/01/2025This week, the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge has begun the works that will transform the seafront of La Pineda. These works are part of the Executive Project for the Renovation and Landscape and Environmental Adaptation of the La Pineda Promenade in Vila-seca, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan (PRTR).
The works, which will last for 12 months, will involve an investment of €8,436,586, financed by the state budget.
The project represents a new step towards the recovery, organization, and environmental improvement of a section of the La Pineda Promenade, with the goal of enhancing the overall landscape and environmental quality of the area. As announced a few months ago, the aim is to redefine the urban boundary in contact with the beach by removing a significant part of the road, making the area more accessible and natural, incorporating the existing open spaces of the coastal front, as well as public services and facilities for users. In fact, with the new promenade, the urban limit in contact with the beach will be redefined. The dune system of the beach will be restored, the promenade will be expanded by eliminating the road, and pedestrian connections between the streets and the coastline will be improved.
In total, the project covers an area of approximately 33,187 m², in addition to the landscape adaptation of the dune system, and includes the following actions: preliminary clearing and cleaning work, demolition and removal of elements, removal of pavements, earthworks and leveling, redesign of the new layout, paving of roads, public spaces, and sidewalks, construction of pedestrian crossings, containment elements, installation of services such as public lighting, installation and/or expansion of the sanitation network, irrigation, and potable water supply network, planting of vegetation, installation of urban furniture, and horizontal and vertical signage.
Additionally, with the start of the works, new locations for bus stops have already been established to minimize the impact on public transport mobility in La Pineda. In fact, the section of Pau Casals Promenade between Hipólito Lázaro Street and Camí del Racó Street has been permanently closed to vehicle traffic.
It is also worth noting that the Vila-seca City Council has recently launched various landscape recovery initiatives in La Pineda, including the renaturalization of the beach and improvements to public lighting.
