Each year, La Pineda Platja in Vila-seca is home to the traditional sand sculpture nativity scene during the months of December and January. A spectacular series of sculptures made from sand are raised to craft a huge nativity scene in Pinar de Perruquet Park.
Several international artists shape the sand to obtain a unique and different set of sculptures each year. The final result astonishes and delights visitors, as the sculptures are gradually revealed as they are completed.
The impressive sculptures occupy an area of some 200m2. And some 300m3 of sand are used to create them, which translates into close to 400 tonnes of sand employed in the nativity scene.
The Pessebre de Sorra (Sand Sculpture Nativity Scene) has been organised since 2000. In parallel, a series of family Christmas activities are held so that young and old alike can enjoy this lovely Vila-seca tradition.
