The Costa Daurada has an excellent location for being included on the itineraries for Mediterranean cruise ships. Open to the sea, the region’s temperatures are warm throughout most of the year, with a large number of hours of sunlight.
The Port of Tarragona, very close to the Vila-seca and La Pineda Platja seaside promenade, is one of the most important cruise ship ports in the Mediterranean. In upcoming years, there are plans to install a cruise ship pier at the future Prats counterdike.
The project entails the construction of a counterdike, which will be used for the general loading of goods, the lengthening of the breakwater on Prats Beach for the placement of the large 30 hectare cruise ship pier, an action framed within the new master plan for the Port of Tarragona for this cruise ship terminal.
At present, the project is under study and its development and execution is estimated within a five year period.
The new cruise ship port represents a new business opportunity for the Vila-seca tourism sector, as well as improving the visual impact and making it possible to extend the seaside promenade in La Pineda to run along the length of the breakwater.
